In July 2021, a photo of a small gray kitten staring directly into the camera, mouth slightly open, eyes half-closed, was posted on 9GAG. The caption was simple: "Hehe."
The image spread rapidly across Reddit, Twitter, and Instagram. People started using it as a reaction to anything mischievous, smug, or quietly unhinged. The cat wasn't doing anything. It didn't have to. That barely-open mouth said everything.
Within weeks it became one of the most remixed reaction memes of 2021, dubbed, edited, captioned in dozens of languages. The original cat's identity was never confirmed. It just existed. Hehe.
